The following was a Facebook conversation. I was responding to a friend (who will remain nameless) and his comments… truth be told it was more of a response to the comments from his friends to a post that stirred much debate. The comments were all over the place, but the patriotic question spawned a response from me. His response is broken up and in quotes. Enjoy!
“The ENTIRE reason for my post was to humorously (I thought so, anyway) point out that just because someone has a problem with government doesn’t make said person unpatriotic.”
Conservatives are being called unpatriotic because they don’t want to accept the changes being forced on them. The latest polls (not from FOX) have shown that Conservatives aren’t the only ones upset about what is going on with our nonRepresentatives. Pelosi’s approval rating is down to 11% according to CBS. Reid is also at 8%. Rasmussen puts Congress’s approval rating at 28%. 48% of that is from Democrats upset just as much as Republicans. If anyone is being unpatriotic, it’s the representatives in Congress (both sides of the isle on any topic) that are pushing agendas instead of representing their constituents.
“Do you remember when the Pharisees tried to rope Jesus into a political discussion about taxes? He REFUSED to give into them, saying “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s. Give to God what is God’s.”
When in Rome… Christ was talking about following the law of the land. Do you remember that Rome was not a God fearing nation. The Jews were viewed more as an infestation. Today we are in a battle to preserve and restore a Christian nation… one that has done more good in the world than all other nations combined. Yes, we have had bad events in history – we are human, but where would the world be if our ancestors (the majority of them) had not been active in pursuing Christ as best as they could? Webster defines patriotic as “having or expressing devotion to and vigorous support for one’s country.” This country is being changed… one freedom at a time.
I’m patriotic. I follow Christ. I read my Bible. I often carry a gun (have the permit) (Federal property excluded) and I love everyone. I am MORE than willing to help those in need. I do not need an overgrown government to force me to help anyone. My rights, though, are being taken away because of those who won’t take responsibility to help others as they are only out for themselves. The sad thing is, some are more than willing to help, but they’ve been suckered into giving up their freedoms thinking that the government will do a better job than they can on their own.
Yes, I love you too.
